Blue light, it's coming from our computer screens, televisions and cell phones. Is it harmful? Is it dangerous? What is the real truth about blue light...

In order to better understand the effects of blue light on our eyes, we first need to understand the visual system. Did you know that everything we see is light? Vision is the perception of light entering the eyes and triggering signals in our brain.

You can see above different wavelengths that make up light. Visible light is made up of a range of colors between violet and red. The further towards blue and violet, the higher the amount of energy contained.

High energy light CAN cause damage to the eyes. Ultraviolet light from the sun will result in cataracts and retinal damage if not controlled. We MUST protect our eyes from UV light. Lenses from H.EYE always include a filter to protect from UVA & UVB.

Does that mean we should avoid all blue light? Not to worry, the natural lens of the eye is already designed to filter out some blue light. Also, the amount of blue light coming from screens is relatively insignificant compared to the natural blue light occurring outdoors.

In fact, some high energy light is good for our bodies. It helps us to regulate melatonin production associated with natural sleep/wake cycles. If you have difficulty waking or falling asleep, try to spend a few minutes outdoors during day and reduce your screen time at night.

The perfect combination of wavelengths allows us to see the colors of flowers and rainbows. H.EYE wants you to enjoy all of nature's beauty while keeping your eyes healthy!
